Should Post Formats be a part of WordPress or a plugin?
This amusing article discusses an ongoing argument – the implementation of Post Formats was the main reason for the delay to the WordPress 3.6 release (on the other hand, this issue kickstarted development of new functionalities as plugins, which is in my opinion a very good step forward) and there are often suggestions that this function should not be included in WordPress itself, but is should be available as a separate plugin. Personally, I think that Post Formats are unnecessary in WordPress; despite having multiple pages based on WordPress, I have almost never used this functionality.
